Europa League - 5 scorers to follow tonight…

What a player Erling Braut Haaland is.

The young Norwegian made a mockery of Sevilla’s home clean sheet record last night, banging in two goals before half time.

Haaland has now got 18 Champions League goals in his first 13 career appearances in the competition. Sensational stuff.

Borussia Dortmund only got Haaland from Salzburg last season. But they probably won’t be able to keep him for long. According to Skybet, Man City are the favourites to snap him up in the summer transfer window.

And at just 20 years old, we can look forward to many years to come backing this guy in the Scorer markets…

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi won’t be around forever. But as we’ve seen already in the Champions League this week – with a brace for Haaland, and a hat-trick for PSG’s Kylian Mbappe – there are some very exciting new world-class strikers on the scene.

  • So far this season, Haaland has landed Anytime Scorer bets in 18 out of 29 apps in all competitions. In 10 of those games, he’s scored 2 or more goals

Europa League player notebook…

My Anytime Scorer selections are showing a 25% ROI this season. Here are the players that I’ve got in my notes for this evening’s Europa League 1st Legs ties…

If you don’t mind short prices, then the like of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son are both odds-on to score Anytime for Tottenham against Wolfsberger. Although Jose Mourinho might rotate his squad.

Likewise, Zlatan Ibrahimovic for AC Milan against Red Star Belgrade. Zlatan may be saved for the big Milan derby in Italy this weekend. But if he plays, he’s one to watch at Evens and better (2.0+).

Elsewhere, Hoffenheim striker Andrej Kramaric is odds-on, 5/6 (1.83) at best to find the net against Molde.

Five players that make the cut for me at bigger prices:

Real Sociedad v Man Utd (5.55pm) – Bruno Fernandes @ 2/1 (3.0)

  • Fernandes has scored in 3 of his last 4 games overall, and in 5 of his last 7 in Europe for Man Utd. Takes free kicks and penalties

Young Boys v Bayer Leverkusen (5.55pm) – Leon Bailey @ 11/4 (3.75)

  • Bailey is the second-highest scorer in the Europa League this season, with 5 goals. He’s landed Anytime Scorer bets in 2 of his last 3 games for Leverkusen

Slavia Prague v Leicester (5.55pm) – Jamie Vardy @ 13/10 (2.3)

  • Vardy has scored in each of his last 3 European matches for Leicester. Recently back from injury, he got his first goal of 2021 against Liverpool last weekend. Takes pens

Benfica v Arsenal (8pm) – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang @ 7/5 (2.4)

  • Aubameyang hit a hat-trick in the Premier League on Sunday. He’s landed Anytime Scorer bets in 6 of his last 10 Europa League apps for Arsenal. Takes pens

Salzburg v Villarreal (8pm) – Patson Daka @ 6/4 (2.5)

  • Daka has scored in 6 of his last 7 games for Salzburg. He’s the club’s top scorer in all comps this season with 15 goals, one ahead of Sekou Koita

Remember the German-Italian rule…

There are 32 teams remaining in the Europa League, with the knockout rounds starting from today.

Here’s how the Outright Winner betting looks at Bet365:

UEFA Europa League 2020/21 Outright Winner odds

If you’re thinking of getting involved in the Outright Winner market, I can offer you these two pointers. Which, if nothing else, might help steer you away from a few teams…

German and Italian clubs have not fared well in this competition in recent times:

  • In the last 18 years, only one of 36 finalists has come from the German Bundesliga, with Werder Bremen a runner-up way back in 2008/09
  • And in the last 20 years, only one of 40 finalists has come from Italy’s Serie A, with Inter Milan the runner-up last season

Records are there to be broken, of course. But with a team like AC Milan, for example, embroiled in a title race with rivals Inter (who are already out of Europe). You’d have to question whether Milan will compete to the top level on all fronts, as the busy fixture list continues into the springtime.
