International Superstar Soccer...

Wednesday 24th March 2021

In Across the Leagues today:

  • 14/1 Blackpool move into the playoff places…
  • World Cup 2022 and Euro 2021…
  • My 2/1 pick for Finland tonight…

International Superstar Soccer…

Northampton beat Oxford by one goal to nil last night, with the goal coming in the second half. Not far off the 0-0 at 6/1+ then, and those two sides should be kept on the radar for goalless draw opportunities. They’ve both had three 0-0’s out of 10 in League One.

On yesterday’s Corners stats in Leagues One & Two, two of our four featured matches ranked the Under 10.5 Corners figures. With the classic ‘one corner too many’ at Mansfield:

Northampton 1 Oxford 0 – Total Corners = 13
Mansfield 0 Forest Green 0 – Total Corners = 11
Barrow 0 Grimsby 1 – Total Corners = 9
Southend 0 Walsall 0 – Total Corners = 7

Some low-scoring games there, too, with two 1-0’s and a brace of 0-0 draws.

Tangerines keeping the dream alive…

Oxford losing was good news for our 14/1 bet on Blackpool to be Promoted from League One…

Blackpool have done well against top-half teams this season, and after a 2-0 win at Oxford last weekend, the Tangerines got another big three points yesterday evening, beating 2nd place Peterborough, 3-1.

Neil Critchley’s side are now into the playoff places, in 6th – and are unbeaten in 10 games. Blackpool are currently trading at 4/1 to go up.

During that 10-game run, our man Jerry Yates has weighed in with six goals, including a couple last night…

A 33/1 pick for League One Top Goalscorer this season, Yates is making ground on the Top 4 places, for the chance of an Each Way return (1/4 odds). He’s on 14 goals, three off of 4th spot.

  • Blackpool’s next game is at home v Plymouth this Saturday

World Cup 2022 and Euro 2021…

We turn our attention to International matters now…

If things go to plan, then we’ll have the rarest of football treats to look forward to: back-to-back International tournaments. With the rearranged Euro 2020 booked in for this summer, starting 11th June. And then the World Cup 2022 in Qatar, due to begin on 21st November next year.

At the last World Cup, Russia 2018, we had a great time of it. And I’m pleased to confirm that I will be running a DAILY service for the rescheduled European Championships this summer… AND that it will form part of your current Across the Leagues membership.

In other words: don’t go anywhere. Stay tuned. As well as the culmination of the current 2020/21 season, you’ll be getting full Across the Leagues stats, analysis & advice for the Euros, too. And the World Cup next year…

Stars on show tonight…

World Cup Qualifying starts this evening, with the European groups our focus. England v San Marino will be our featured match in tomorrow’s email.

Tonight’s games feature some familiar names in the Anytime Scorer betting. Here’s my at-a-glance guide to the prices, compared to a usual week in the respective club matches:

  • France v Ukraine – Kylian Mbappe has found the net in 7 of his last 10 games for PSG. The young French star is 10/11 (1.91) to score tonight. That’s the same price as he was to score for PSG in the French Cup last week
  • Portugal v Azerbaijan – Cristiano Ronaldo – Mr Record-Breaker needs little introduction. Ronaldo is short odds-on at just 1/4 (1.25) at best to score for Portugal tonight. In a usual week for Juventus, he’s priced at around 4/6 (1.67). He’s scored in 4 of his last 7 appearances for Juventus
  • Belgium v Wales – Romelu Lukaku – Inter Milan didn’t want to release him for International duty, but here he is. Lukaku has scored in 4 of his last 6 games in Serie A. He’s 5/6 (1.83) to score Anytime today – around the same price as usual
  • Belgium v Wales – also in this game, Kevin De Bruyne is around 2/1 (3.0) to score for Belgium. That’s around the same price you’d get for him on a Champions League night for Man City. De Bruyne has scored in 3 games in a row for City

And now for two names that are slightly less familiar...

  • Malta v Russia – Artem Dzyuba – the man they call The Beast has scored in 4 of his last 6 games for Zenit St Petersburg. He’s odds-on at 1/2 (1.5) to score tonight; you’d usually see him around Evens (2.0) for his club, or against a higher level of International opposition
  • Finland v Bosnia-Herzegovina – Teemu Pukki has featured in my write-ups a lot recently. He’s scored on his last 2 starts for Finland. For Norwich, Pukki is top scorer this season, and has landed Anytime Scorer bets in 8 of his last 10 appearances in the Championship – with 6 of those also paying out on First Goalscorer. He’s available at 2/1 (3.0) to score Anytime tonight, and that’s a good-looking price compared to standard odds of Evens (2.0) and 10/11 (1.91) for his club

From those half-a-dozen names, the price I like most today is 2/1 for Pukki.

TODAY’S PICKS

From the analysis above, here’s my pick for today…

Finland v Bosnia-Herzegovina

7.45pm, Sky Sports Football (Red Button)

  • Anytime Scorer: Teemu Pukki @ 2/1 (3.0) Skybet, BetVictor, Ladbrokes, Coral, Betway

I’ll be back tomorrow with a betting preview and analysis for England v San Marino.

Enjoy the football…

Best wishes,

Oliver Upstone
