In Across the Leagues today:
What’s better than an injury-time equaliser? An injury-time winner, of course…
That was the case for Morecambe last night. The Shrimps came from 0-1 down to beat Salford, 2-1. With goals in the 94th and 96th minute.
After a 2-1 win at Barrow last weekend, yesterday’s result keeps Morecambe right in the mix in this highly competitive/ wide open League Two promotion race…
League Two table (as of 23rd Feb):
I added Morecambe to the 2020/21 ante post book last month, when the Football League season hit the halfway point.
We flagged up the Shrimps at 50/1 Each Way (3 places) for the title. And 9/1 for Promotion.
Currently sitting in 4th, with 16 games to go. Derek Adams’ side are now 25/1 to win League Two. The 2/1 favourites Forest Green play Southend this evening.
In the Promotion market, our team are now trading at 4/1.
It’s sure to be an exciting run-in. No fewer than 11 clubs are priced at single-figure odds for Promotion. Only four can go up – the top three automatically, and one other via the playoffs.
There’s a lot of football still to be played. But with a 50/1 Each Way shot, it’s excitement that we’re after. And the way the top of League Two is looking right now, Morecambe are certainly in with a shout of cracking the Top 3.
Talking of busting into the Each Way places, November’s selection for League Two Top Goalscorer, Eoin Doyle, was on the scoresheet again on Tuesday night…
The Bolton striker scored from the penalty spot in a 2-0 win for Bolton. Doyle now has 12 league goals in 2020/21. Putting him just one off the Top 4 (Each Way) places.
Backed at 33/1, the Irishman’s odds have since been chopped in half. With 16/1 the current best price – and the bookmakers are now betting Win Only.
With Cambridge’s Paul Mullin out in front on 22 goals, the other three places are a realistic target for our man Eoin Doyle:
League Two – Top Goalscorer table (as of 23rd Feb):
In League One, the team we’re behind to make a promotion push are Blackpool…
The Tangerines’ match v Doncaster Rovers was called off last night, due to a waterlogged pitch. So that adds another fixture to the games-in-hand list for Neil Critchley’s side.
The Champions League 1st Leg ties continue this evening with Atalanta v Real Madrid and Borussia Monchengladbach v Manchester City.
Man City are on a scary 18-game winning streak. After five Clean Sheets in a row for Pep Guardiola’s side in the Champions League Group stage. One faint glimmer of hope for M’gladbach tonight is that City have conceded in three of their last five games coming into this one…
That could suggest the door is ever so slightly open for the German team to at least make a dent in the City backline.
If Monchengladbach get a penalty, a player we spoke about earlier this month, Lars Stindl, is the man most likely to take it. He’s 6/1 to score Anytime with Paddy Power & Betfair Sportsbook.
I’m keeping the power dry today, though. Upcoming Champions League encounters look to hold better opportunities to get involved.
When the 2nd Legs come along, there’s always the ‘script’ to factor in. Which can lead to some big-price outcomes and drama, with teams scrambling to overturn scoreboard deficits.
And on that front, there’s a big batch of 2nd Legs in the Europa League tomorrow…
After an eventful match-day last Thursday, in which half of the 16 matches produced 4+ Total Goals. I’ll be going over this week’s Europa fixtures and aggregate scores with interest. See you tomorrow.
Enjoy the football…
