Weekend Preview – featuring a 134/1 combo…

I told you I didn’t have Steven Gerrard on speed-dial.

Last night, for the first time this season, the Rangers boss left club captain (and top scorer) James Tavernier on the bench.

For Benfica, Luis Pizzi (or Miguel Afonso Fernandes, as some websites list him) also started among the substitutes…

Both men ended up coming on for the final half-hour or so of their respective Europa League ties.

And with Pizzi going on to score from the penalty spot to land odds of 2/1, it was a case of all’s well that ends well on the night.

Scorers notebook…

I’ve got plenty of names on the list as we head into this weekend’s football.

Anytime Scorers on the radar include:

  • Wolfsburg v Eintracht Frankfurt (tonight) – Wout Weghorst is enjoying a very good scoring run for Wolfsburg. The big Dutchman has found the net in 5 of his last 7 appearances in the German Bundesliga. For the visitors, Andre Silva has scored in 7 out of 11 apps in all competitions. You can get around 7/5 (2.4) each for those two
  • Sassuolo v Benevento (tonight) – Francesco Caputo went in the 2020/21 book at 33/1 Each Way for Serie A Top Goalscorer on 6th November. He got injured that very day, and hasn’t played since. The Italian is due back imminently. Most bookies have him a shade odds-on to score tonight, at around 19/20 (1.95)
  • Lazio v Verona (Saturday) – last season’s Serie A top scorer Ciro Immobile is at it again. The Lazio striker has scored in 9 games in a row in all comps. He’s odds-on to make it 10 this weekend. The best price available is 5/6 (1.83) with Skybet, BetVictor, Ladbrokes & Coral
  • Salzburg v LASK Linz (Sunday) – the top two in the Austrian Bundesliga go head-to-head here. Linz youngster Johannes Eggestein featured in our Monday Report this week, having scored in 3 of his last 4 games, and in 6 of his last 9. The 22-year-old is a top price 3/1 (4.0) with Paddy Power & Betfair Sportsbook this weekend, and 15/8 (2.88) elsewhere. The question is whether he can do it against the toughest opponent in the league – away to the champions. LASK have only managed one win in 9 attempts against Salzburg over the past two seasons

Plenty of interest there. I like two of our recent regulars at 2/1 (3.0) each this weekend…

  • Dundee Utd v Rangers (Sunday) – James Tavernier is going in again. The Rangers right-back and penalty-taker is the top scorer in the Scottish Premiership this season. He’s landed Anytime Scorer bets in 14 out of 26 apps in all comps. If taken at odds of 2/1 each time, his season ROI would stand at 61.5% ROI
  • Walsall v Bolton (Saturday) – we got Bolton striker Eoin Doyle in the League Two book at 33/1 Each Way on 20th Nov. He’s racked up 4 goals from 4 games since then, and is now 12/1 at best (Bet365), and as short as 6/1 (BetVictor). The Irishman has landed Anytime Scorer bets in 6 of his last 10 games, and in 4 of his last 5. That form suggests odds of 23/10 (3.3) represent value here. Backed at that price in every league appearance since joining Bolton this summer, the ROI on Doyle would be 52%

Sticking with the Championship high-flyers…

Anytime Scorer is one of my favourite markets. It’s proved a profitable area in my weekly analysis so far this season, with picks in that department generating a 32% ROI.

This weekend in the Championship, I’m sticking with the division’s three top scorers:

Ivan Toney
Adam Armstrong
Lucas Joao

These guys might have drawn a blank in midweek, but the 2020/21 formbook says we can expect them to be back in the goals sooner rather than later.

The Scorer stats on our website show just how prolific these men are:

Championship Anytime Scorer Stats

This weekend, Toney, Armstrong, and Joao are available at slightly bigger prices than in the last round of Championship matches on Wednesday. You can get 6/5+ (2.2+) each.

The Treble in midweek came out at 9/1 and 8/1. This time it comes out at 12/1 and 10/1.

I’m going in again on these three in a Trixie (3 Doubles and a Treble). The rationale being, any two to score gives a payout, and the full house delivers more than taking all three men as Singles alongside a standalone Treble.

Win & Both Teams to Score contenders…

Our Win & BTTS feature has proved popular and successful thus far, and we’re stepping things up with a brand new set of tables for this market, now available to view on the website…

The team have been working hard behind the scenes this week, and we’ve now got dedicated Win & BTTS tables for all 17 leagues. This should be a great help when it comes to picking out your own picks and combinations in this market.

To find the new tables on the site:

  • Click on a league (eg. Premier League)
  • Then select the League Stats tab from the yellow menu bar
  • You’ll find the Win & BTTS table in the Match Results section

Here are my own selections for the English Football League (EFL) on Saturday afternoon…

Wigan v Accrington Stanley (League One)

  • Accrington are pushing for the Playoff positions, and are unbeaten in 8 games in all comps (winning 6). Their 2 most recent wins were 3-2 and 2-1. Wigan have won just one of their last 14 games in all comps, and sit bottom of League One. Three of Wigan’s last 4 defeats have delivered on Win & BTTS

Accrington to Win & Both Teams to Score is 15/4 (4.75) and 7/2 (4.5).

Oldham v Bradford (League Two)

  • Oldham have won 6 league games this season, and all 6 of those victories have paid out on Win & BTTS. They’ve won 3 of their last 4 games, but are the only team in the division yet to keep a single Clean Sheet (none in 16 games). Bradford are second-bottom of the table, and have lost 5 in a row in all comps. They’ve scored in 2 of their last 3 defeats

Oldham to Win & Both Teams to Score is 15/4 (4.75) and 7/2 (4.5).

Port Vale v Colchester (League Two)

  • Colchester are the match underdogs here, but sit 5th in the table, 5 places and 5 points above Port Vale. Both Teams to Score has paid out in 10 of Colchester’s last 11 in all comps, and Win & BTTS has come good in 5 of their last 6 victories. Vale’s matches have been producing plenty of goals, with 2-1 and 3-6 wins coming on the back of 2-3 and 2-1 losses. The away side look the value here

Colchester to Win & Both Teams to Score is 11/2 (6.5) and 5/1 (6.0)

Take your pick…

As ever, my advice with these selections is to pick & choose, however you prefer – Singles, Doubles, Trixies, Patents…

I’m going for my usual three-pronged approach, with the goals-at-both-ends/ win options covered in various ways:

Accrington, Oldham & Colchester:

Match Win treble pays 16/1 and 15/1.

Both Teams to Score treble pays 9/2 (5.5) and 4/1 (5.0).

Win & BTTS treble pays 134/1 and 100/1+.
