Premier League Predictions - and Arsenal's standout stats...

Tuesday 15th December 2020

In Across the Leagues EXTRA today:

  • Big Match Stats…
  • Premier League Predictions…
  • 37/1 Midweek Acca…

Christmas is on the way, and the festive fixture list gets going today…

In the Premier League, ‘Amazon Week’ begins from 6pm. There’s a full round of 10 games taking place across today, tomorrow & Thursday – all live on Amazon Prime Video.

There are some big matches in store. Including Liverpool v Tottenham at the top of the table. And a high-pressure home match for Arsenal…

Big Match Stats: Arsenal v Southampton

Wednesday, 6pm – Amazon Prime Video

Match odds: Arsenal 5/4 (2.25), Draw 12/5 (3.4), Southampton 9/4 (3.25)

All eyes are on Arsenal and Mikel Arteta in this one…

They say the league table doesn’t lie. The Gunners currently sit 15th, 5 points off the relegation zone. Most alarmingly of all for Arsenal fans: they’ve lost 4 in a row at home in the league.

Southampton are flying high in 4th place, just 2 pts off the top as it stands. Only Leicester, Tottenham & Man Utd have scored more away goals than the Saints this season.

Arsenal have failed to score in 6 of their last 8 Premier League matches overall. In an attempt to create more goals and chances, the North London side have been piling the crosses into the opposition’s box…

  • The official Premier League website shows that Arsenal have put in more Crosses than any other team this season (263). Southampton are second-bottom for that stat (153 Crosses)

And while the goals haven’t been coming, the Gunners have been earning plenty of corners for their efforts:

  • Arsenal have won the Most Corners in 4 of their 6 home games in the league. Southampton haven’t won the Most Corners in any of their 6 away games
  • Losing 0-1 at home v Burnley at the weekend, the corners tally was 13-4 to Arsenal. When losing 1-2 v Wolves before that, Arsenal bossed the corners, 8-4
  • Arsenal are 2nd in the division for Total Corners For at home this season. Southampton away are 19 of 20 teams for that category

The Head-2-Head home v away comparison in the members-only zone of our Across the Leagues website shows that Arsenal are averaging 7.0 Corners For and 4.7 Against at the Emirates Stadium. With Southampton averaging 2.5 Corners For and 7.2 Against on the road

Big Match Stats summary:

With such strong corners stats in favour of the home side, I’m surprised Arsenal aren’t priced up shorter for the Most Corners for this game. Some bookies call this market the Corners Match Bet:

  • Most Corners: Arsenal is 8/11 (1.73) with Paddy Power, Betfair Sportsbook, 7/10 (1.7) BetVictor, 4/6 (1.67) Bet365
