TV Stat of the Week…

Six games into the Premier League season, the stats on our Across the Leagues website are starting to build up a decent body of form…

A good time, then, to introduce a new 2020/21 feature to your free Friday ATL EXTRA email: the TV Stat of the Week.

This is a does-what-it-says-on-the-tin element of our weekend coverage. Offering up a standout stats-based bet for a weekend televised game, from the wealth of data on our members-only website.

We’re kicking off with Liverpool v West Ham, which is live on Sky Sports, Saturday 5.30pm.

Liverpool + West Ham = Corners…

If you’re a stats nerd like me, then you will – of course – surely remember some of the big Total Corners tallies that Liverpool and West Ham have posted over the years…

No? Well let me jog your memory…

There’s the humongous 16-8 corners score in Liverpool’s 3-2 win at Anfield last season, for starters (Total Corners = 24). Considering the standard betting line for Premier League games in Under or Over 11.5 Corners, you can see how massive the total for that game was, at 24.

The 2018/19 Anfield encounter produced a modest 5-4 corners win for the Reds. But the dominance is on show again in the 2017/18 figures, with an 8-2 corners score for Liverpool v the Hammers.

  • In 2016/17, the corners tally in this fixture was 11-4
  • And going further, Liverpool v West Ham games have also produced 8-4, 12-2 and 10-2 corners scores during the last decade of Premier League action at Anfield

There will be no fans in the stadium for Saturday evening’s game. But so far this season, the lack of a crowd hasn’t put a halt on Jurgen Klopp’s side’s corner-winning abilities…

  • Our website has Liverpool ranked as the No.1 team in the Premier League for Most Corners bets, landing that bet in 6 out of 6 games so far in 2020/21
  • That includes 3 out of 3 corner wins at home, with flag-kick tallies of: 7-3, 7-3, and 9-0

Liverpool are also top for Total Corners Won in the English top-flight in the new season, with 46 corners to their name so far:

Premier League Totals

The main theme in those figures is Liverpool winning the Most Corners, and doing it with some room to spare…

Consulting the markets for Saturday’s game, the bookies have Liverpool short odds-on to win the Most Corners (sometimes called the Corners Match Bet), at 1/5 (1.2) at best with Skybet.

For a more palatable price, the -3.5 or -3 Corner Handicap looks a very viable option, available at around 8/11 (1.73). That requires Liverpool to win 4+ corners more than West Ham, which is something they achieved in 9 of the 10 corners tallies listed in the research above.

The Weekend Acca…

When our Match Result predictions match up, my colleague Shaun & I roll these picks into an accumulator.

This week we have the same opinions on 5 of the 10 games, with a couple of draws in there ramping up the odds…

Premier League Acca:

  • Man City
  • Chelsea
  • Newcastle v Everton – Draw
  • Tottenham
  • Leeds v Leicester – Draw

The 5-fold acca pays 41/1 with Boylesports and around 40/1 in general.

On the Correct Score front, we’ve got one matching score-line in our predictions…

  • A 1-1 draw for Newcastle v Everton is 13/2 (7.5) with Bet365

We’ll be back next week with more stats and predictions for you.

Enjoy the football…
