The most profitable stats are those that the bookies haven’t cottoned on to – the bets where we can get healthy odds for a highly-rated trend. Backing Premier League champions Man City to win the Most Cards or Booking Points away from home this season is a prime example...

Man City were the 13/10 ‘underdogs’ to land that bet at Everton on Saturday, but the stats painted a clear picture in favour of City. The final Cards tally was 1 Yellow Card v 2 Yellow Cards (10 pts Everton, 20 pts City).

That bet has now paid out in 8 of City’s 11 Away games – a significant 73% trend. And in 5 of their last 6 league games overall.

• Chelsea kept up their 100% Home Win record, beating Newcastle at short odds of 1/5

• The Chelsea 2-0 Correct Score is now the most common score-line on any Premier League team this season – paying out 7 times, including on Saturday v Newcastle, at average odds of 5/1

• We chose one of the other top-rated Correct Scores for our big-price ‘Eye-catcher’ pick at the weekend – highlighting the 0-0 draw for Sunderland v Liverpool @ 10/1 and also for Leicester v Aston Villa @ 7/1. The stats weren’t far off with those games both turning out to be low-scoring affairs, ending 0-1 and 1-0 respectively

• Our other Missed Cut nomination was Arsenal to win the Most Corners and the Corner Handicap v Stoke. The bookies set the bar high at a -4 Corner Handicap but Arsenal romped it 9-1 (enough to beat a -7 Handicap), and have now won the Most Corners in 90% of Home games
