Spotlight - keep an eye on these Percentage Men...

Wednesday 9th December 2015

In your Prem10 – Spotlight email today:

  • Top Team Scorers – ones to watch...
  • Keep an eye on these Percentage Men...
  • Coming up on Friday...

A few weeks ago we looked at players landing the highest number of Anytime Scorer and First Scorer payouts this season.

The findings told us it’s NOT all about backing the ‘big name’ players...

A month down the line and there’s still no sign of Sergio Aguero (Man City) or Diego Costa (Chelsea) near the top of the charts.

While the likes of Jamie Vardy (Leicester), Odion Ighalo (Watford), Olivier Giroud (Arsenal) and Graziano Pelle (Southampton) continue to prosper.

And the stats tell us to add a couple more players to our ‘ones to watch’ list today...

In the Spotlight:

Keep an eye on these Percentage Men...

I’ve focused today’s stats research on Top Team Scorers. You can view the top scoring players for all 20 Premier League teams on the individual Team Stats pages on our website.

What I’m most interested in here are players that are scoring the highest proportion of their team’s goals.

Forming a ‘checklist’ of players to look out for in the Scorer markets for games involving their teams.

Here are my findings...

Top Team Scorers:

TEAM

PLAYER

% of Team Goals

Watford

Ighalo

53%   (9/ 17)

Leicester

Vardy

44%   (14/ 32)

Newcastle

Wijnaldum

44%   (7/ 16)

Swansea

Ayew

42%   (6/ 14)

Everton

Lukaku

39%   (11/ 28)

Stoke

Arnautovic

38%   (5/ 13)

Tottenham

Kane

32%   (8/ 25)

Arsenal

Giroud

30%   (8/ 27)

Southampton

Pelle

29%   (6/ 21)

Liverpool

Coutinho

28%   (5/ 18)

Norwich

Redmond

24%   (4/ 17)

Man City

Aguero

23%   (7/ 30)

Man Utd

Mata

20%   (4/ 20)

Crystal Palace

Bolasie

20%   (4/ 20)

West Ham

Payet

20%   (5/ 25)

The numbers tell us that...

  • Watford’s Odion Ighalo is the top man – responsible for over half of his team’s goals. That strike-rate would be even higher if Ighalo took the Penalties... teammate Troy Deeney has scored 5 goals (29%), with 3 of them from the spot

And there a few surprises elsewhere...

  • Midfielder Juan Mata is Man Utd’s top scorer in the league so far this season

  • And likewise for Philippe Coutinho at Liverpool – currently out-scoring Christian Benteke (4 goals, 22%), with strikers Danny Ings and Daniel Sturridge out injured

  • Another midfielder, Georginio Wijnaldum, is currently top scorer at Newcastle with a significant 44% of his team’s goals

Two strikers creeping up the table...

  • After a slow start to the season, Harry Kane has weighed in with 7 of Tottenham’s last 14 Premier League goals

  • While Everton’s Romelu Lukaku has scored in 5 consecutive league games, and 6 in row in all comps

In terms of strikers, Ighalo and Lukaku are the two eye-catchers for me right now.

But when it comes to getting the biggest prices, midfielders such as Mata, Coutinho and Wijnaldum could prove the more intriguing (and profitable) propositions. Generally talking those players are double the odds of their teams’ strikers in the weekly Anytime Scorer betting. With double-figure prices often on offer in the First Scorer lists.

Plenty for us to keep in mind there, as we look to the weekend markets...

Coming up on Friday...

I’ll be gathering together the week’s top stats, and hunting out the best value prices, in your Weekend Picks email on Friday.

This week’s enticing fixtures include Bournemouth v Man Utd, Tottenham v Newcastle and 1st v 14th, Leicester v Chelsea...

Until then,

Best wishes,

Oliver Upstone
