West Ham strike early again...
Last week’s Spotlight feature did a good job of identifying some weekend value for us. In Wednesday’s email we flagged up West Ham’s strong record against big-name clubs this season.
Along with their habit of scoring early at Upton Park...
Everything almost went according to plan for The Hammers (and the stats). They went 1-0 up against Man City in the very first minute of the game, then led 2-1 in the 2nd Half – but were ultimately pegged back for a 2-2 draw by goals from Sergio Aguero.
Having already beaten the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Saturday’s opponents Man City in the league this season, midweek odds of 9/2 (5.50) for West Ham to win looked a bit of value. As did the 9/5 (2.80) price for West Ham to score first.
In the end we got a winning payout at shorter odds from our Friday Pick on West Ham +1.0 Asian Handicap at 8/11 (1.73) – an option that covered the win or draw, with the insurance of stakes returned if the Hammers lost by one goal.
- That West Ham result was as good it got for our weekend Picks though, with Bournemouth winning a corner kick in injury time to scupper the Sunderland +1 Corner Handicap (Corners result = Sunderland 3 Bournemouth 4)
- Elsewhere, Wayne Rooney couldn’t score or rescue Man Utd this time (losing 1-0 at Home v Southampton). And Crystal Palace finally scored, after a 5-game drought – but only thanks to an Own Goal from Tottenham. Spurs having been our 7/1 (8.00) and 21/2 (11.50) bigger price Value Picks for the 1-0 and 2-0 Correct Scores. A couple of late goals gave Tottenham a 3-1 win
What the stats say after Week 23...
With the weekend’s numbers to hand, here are some of the top stats in the Premier League right now. Trends that can lead us to betting opportunities in the weeks ahead:
- West Brom 0 Aston Villa – Under 2.5 Goals bets have now paid out in 8 of Villa’s last 9 games
- Everton 1 Swansea 2 – Everton’s Home Both Teams to Score record now stands at 75% (9 games out of 12)
- West Ham 2 Man City 2 – Time of First Goal – 27th Minute or Before bets have now paid out in 9 of West Ham’s 11 Home games (82%)
- Man Utd 0 Southampton 1 – Total Corners = 8 – Man Utd now have the highest strike rate in the Premier League for Under 10.5 Corners. A 78% overall record and an 82% record at Home
- Crystal Palace 1 Tottenham 3 – Corners = 3-10 – Tottenham remain our top-rated team for Most Corners bets, with 18 payouts from 23 games (78%)
Those are just a handful of the strongest stats on show in the Premier League right now. Remember you can access Team Stats for all 20 teams and our new League Stats tables ranking teams across a variety of Goals, Corners and Cards markets – on our website.
Coming up this week...
There’s no Premier League schedule this week due to the FA Cup 4th Round taking place. But we don’t have to wait long for the next league action with a full schedule of midweek games next week (Tue 2nd Feb).
Plus, I’ll be back with your next Spotlight email this Friday, in search of the latest under-the-radar stats, trends and value prices.

And Nick’s upcoming NEW service is specifically designed to target prices like that – from the biggest races every month and every year.
This will be Nick’s first new project for five years. And the biggest single development in the 10 years that we have had the pleasure of publishing Nick’s excellent racing advice.
