WEEKEND STATS REVIEW

Akinde on the spot – and in the book...

Barnet 3 Hartlepool 2

This game panned out pretty much as the stats suggested. Things don’t always go that way – but it’s nice when they do...

John Akinde scored for the 4th game in a row, landing Anytime Scorer bets for the 10th time in 15 League Two appearances this season.

Akinde scored from the penalty spot (with a very cool finish) to land my headline weekend Pick at odds of 23/20 (2.15). Backing Akinde at that price to level stakes in every game would’ve produced a 43% ROI so far.

And as I also mentioned in Friday’s analysis, Akinde has been picking up plenty of Yellow Cards. He got booked again on Saturday – for the 4th game in a row. That takes him to 5 Yellows for the season and triggers an automatic one-match ban with immediate effect.

That game also went to form in terms of Hartlepool’s Goals stats. They’ve now conceded 3 goals in each of their last 3 games. And are the top-rated League Two side for Both Teams to Score bets with 13 payouts from 15 (87%).

Good pickings for the Cherries...

My other two Picks produced one winner and one loser. League One leaders Scunthorpe scored 4, but top scorer and double Player of the Month winner Josh Morris didn’t get on the score-sheet this time (Scunthorpe 4 Swindon 1).

The match ‘situation’ went perfectly for a bet on Bournemouth to win the Most Corners, though...

They were 1-0 down at half time at Middlesbrough, and 2-0 down after 56 minutes. Bournemouth couldn’t get back in the game with a goal (final score 2-0), but all I was interested in was the Corners count – which finished comfortably in the away team’s favour at 9-4.

The Most Corners bet was a best price 133/100 (2.33). That option has now paid out in 7 of Bournemouth’s last 8 games in all comps, and they are joint-top of our Premier League rankings for Most Corners with 8 payouts from 10 games.

  • 2 out of 3 winning Picks at the weekend gave a 49% ROI to level stakes. For the season overall my Picks are showing a 20% ROI

  • ChampionshipDerby County 2 Sheffield Wednesday 0... Yet another Under 2.5 Goals game for Derby. They are top-rated for that bet with a 93% record (13 out of 14 games) – including 4 out of 4 games since Steve McClaren took over. There were also 4 Yellow Cards shown by the Referee in this one, taking James Linington’s Over 3.5 Cards record to 9 games out of 10 in the Championship (90%)
  • League OneOxford 1 Millwall 2... That’s now 8 out of 8 away Both Teams to Score results for Millwall (100%). And they are joint-top on our overall League One leader-board for that bet with 13 payouts from 15 games played (87%)

Football on TV every day...

There’s plenty of live football this week...

Tonight’s Premier League Monday Night Football on Sky Sports is Stoke v Swansea... the Champions League is live on BT Sport on Tuesday & Wednesday (followed by Europa League games on Thursday)...

Then the Championship game between Brentford and Fulham is live on Sky on Friday evening, the first of a total of seven live Premier League and Championship games on those channels over the weekend.

Not to mention the FA Cup 1st Round proper. Including three televised ties featuring non-league sides at home to League One opposition – Eastleigh v Swindon (BBC 2), Merstham v Oxford (BT Sport) and Southport v Fleetwood (BT Sport).

Plenty of entertainment there for armchair fans...

Champions League tomorrow...

From a stats & betting point of view, I’ll be concentrating on the Champions League games taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday. And of course the weekend league fixtures.

There are some big games on the schedule, including Man City v Barcelona in the Champions League and Arsenal v Tottenham in the Premier League.

I’ll be back with my Midweek Picks & Analysis on Tuesday, followed by your weekend email on Friday.

See you tomorrow...

Best wishes,

Oliver Upstone
