Local derbies this weekend...
There’s a full fixture list this weekend in the Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two. In Scotland it’s FA Cup weekend.
There are a couple of big derbies live on TV: Tottenham v Arsenal on Saturday and Aston Villa v Birmingham on Sunday. I’ll be taking a look at the historical stats for those two local rivalries in this afternoon’s ATL Extra email.
For our weekend picks two matches catch my eye in the Premier League and League Two – see below.

Huddersfield Home stats lead the way...
Huddersfield v Bournemouth
Premier League, Sun 12pm – BT Sport
- Huddersfield have won the Most Corners in 7 out of 8 Home games v teams outside the Top 6
We’ve profited from the Corners stats in Huddersfield’s last two Premier League games at the John Smith’s stadium – and the prices looks good for this Sunday’s game too...
As we noted ahead of their game against West Ham last month, Huddersfield have been reliable corner winners at Home v non-Top 6 sides.
Huddersfield (19th) at Home v teams outside the Top 6:
1-4 v West Ham – Corners = 7-3
0-0 v Burnley – Corners = 5-4
1-1 v Stoke – Corners = 8-5
2-0 v Brighton – Corners = 8-1
1-0 v West Brom – Corners = 3-5
1-1 v Leicester – Corners = 8-4
0-0 v Southampton – Corners = 5-4
1-0 v Newcastle – Corners = 7-3
That’s 7 out of 8 Most Corners payouts for Huddersfield v teams outside the Top 6. And we noted last time, in the one game from that sample where Huddersfield didn’t win the Most Corners (v West Brom), they played over a third of the game with just 10 men (Red Card).
This weekend Bournemouth visit the John Smith’s stadium. The Cherries have been out-cornered in 5 of their 8 Away games v teams outside the Top 6 – most recently a 6-3 corners defeat in a 1-1 draw at West Ham on 20th Jan.
In the reverse of this fixture in November, Bournemouth hammered Huddersfield 4-0 with the Terriers winning the corner count 11-8.
Huddersfield are currently on a 5-game losing streak and Bournemouth have won 3 of their last 4. If Huddersfield do find themselves behind on the score-board again then that is likely to only strengthen their case for the Most Corners. The Home team look a good price for that bet here.
Most Corners – Huddersfield is a best price 113/100 (2.13) with Marathonbet, 21/20 (2.05) 888 Sport, Unibet. Corners Match Bet – Huddersfield (the same bet with a different name) is 11/10 (2.10) with Bet365. |
- Most Corners and Corners Match Bet markets also available with Skybet, William Hill, Paddy Power
Crawley to win again...
Crawley v Grimsby
League Two, Sat 3pm
- Crawley have won 5 of their last 6 Home games
Crawley are 12th in League Two but their recent form puts them much higher – they’ve won 3 in a row, and 6 of their last 7.
On our League Two form table only 2nd place Wycombe (5 wins in a row) and 5th place Mansfield (3 wins a row) can match them on recent results. Those two both play Away this weekend – but Crawley standout as a rare Home Win selection for us...
Crawley have won 5 of their last 6 league games at the Checkatrade.com stadium, keeping a Clean Sheet in 3 of them.
Grimsby on the other hand are 11 games without a win (lost 7 drawn 4) and have failed to score in 7 of those 11 games. They’ve lost 3 of their last 5 Away games, and failed to score in 4 of them.
The Home v Away formbook paints two contrasting pictures here and the stats make a clear case for a Crawley win at a decent price. If you’d backed Crawley to win at 13/10 (2.30) to level stakes in all 6 of their games so far in 2018, you’d be 5.5 pts up with a 92% ROI.
Crawley to win is a best price 13/10 (2.30) with Betfair Sportsbook, BetVictor, 5/4 (2.25) Bet365, Skybet, Ladbrokes, Coral, 6/5 (2.20) general. |
I’ll be back on Monday with your Weekend Stat Review taking note of the latest stats & trends – followed by our Champions League Picks & Analysis on Tuesday.
Enjoy the football...
Best wishes,
