WEEKEND STATS REVIEW

Welcome to your Weekend Stats Review email.

Every Monday we take a look at the latest stats and results – catching up on the performance of our picks, and drawing attention to particularly eye-catching teams, players or trends.

Shrews the last team standing...

Shrewsbury Town are the only unbeaten team left in the Football League this season...

The Shrews came from a goal down to draw 1-1 at Walsall on Saturday, stretching their unbeaten run in League One to 12 games (W9 D3 L0) – and keeping them top of the table.

That 1-1 score-line was also the 10th time in the last 11 games that Walsall have produced a Both Teams to Score payout. Walsall have an 83% overall record for that bet (10 out of 12) and are 1st place in the ‘League Stats – Both Teams to Score’ standings on our site for League One.

Both Teams to Score was a winning pick from our Weekend Picks & Analysis. My other two picks missed out. With Oxford beating AFC Wimbledon 3-0 to end Wimbledon’s 11-game run for Under 2.5 Goals, and Barnet’s 100% Home record for Over 10.5 Corners coming to an end with 9 corners in their 0-0 draw with Coventry.

And in a classic case of Sod’s Law, I ushered us away from Under 9.5 Corners in the Notts County v Forest Green game as that Total Corners line was a corner lower than the standard Under 10.5 Corners... and of course, the lower option ended up paying out anyway (just), with exactly 9 corners.

  • Since the start of September our picks have given 10 winners from 16 selections, for a 26% ROI to level stakes

Top trends with a dozen played...

Most teams in League One and League Two have now played 12 games. That means there’s more form in the book for those two divisions than in the Premier League (7 rounds of games played), Championship (11) or Scottish Premiership (8).

With the weekend results to hand, here are some of the strongest League One & Two stats trends showing on our site today...

As already noted above:

  • Walsall are the No.1 team in League One for Both Teams to Score (83% record)
  • Shrewsbury are the only unbeaten team left in the Football League this season (W9 D3 L0)

Elsewhere in League One:

  • Northampton 0 Bristol Rovers 6 – Over 2.5 Goals has now paid out in each of Bristol Rovers’ last 11 League One games. Rovers are our top-ranked team in the division for that bet with a 92% overall record (11 games out of 12)
  • Gillingham 0 Portsmouth 1 – Portsmouth won the Most Corners in this one, 8-3. Pompey are the top team in League One for that bet including 5 out of 6 Away payouts (83%). In fact, their corner winning has been strong enough to also cover a -1 and -2 Corner Handicap in those 5 games

In League Two:

  • Cambridge 1 Wycombe 3 – Wycombe are the No.1 team in League Two for Over 2.5 Goals with 10 of their 12 games seeing 3+ goals scored (83%). In fact, Wycombe have scored 3 goals themselves in each of their last 3 games – winning 3-1, 3-1 and 3-2. They’re the top scorers in League Two and have also had more Total Shots on Target than any other team
  • Notts County 1 Forest Green 1 – Forest Green have a 92% record for Under 10.5 Corners with 11 of their 12 games seeing 10 or less corners. There were 9 corners in this one

Also, three ‘losing streaks’ that grab the eye...

  • Port Vale 1 Grimsby 2 – Port Vale have now lost 9 of their last 11 games, and are without a win since in League Two day one of the season (W1 D2 L9). Vale are also yet to keep a Clean Sheet (none in 12 games)
  • Lincoln 2 Chesterfield 1 – Chesterfield have lost 5 in a row and are winless in 9, with a W1 D2 L9 record for the season in League Two. Both Chesterfield and Port Vale have already replaced their managers this season
  • Plymouth 1 Fleetwood 2 – Plymouth are rock bottom of League One and have lost 8 of their last 9 (W1 D2 L9 overall). Next up for Plymouth – a visit from table-topping Shrewsbury this Saturday

All those stats and many more can be found on your Across the Leagues website...

No love lost...

With the World Cup Qualifiers almost done (phew), the league football returns this weekend with a full set of games for us across the Premier League, Championship, League One, League Two and the Scottish Premiership...

Liverpool v Man Utd is the big one on Saturday lunchtime, with absolutely no love lost between the two North West rivals. And it’s fair to say that might be a bit of an atmosphere for Wolves v Aston Villa, too. Both games are live on Sky Sports on Saturday.

I’ll be back on Wednesday with your Spotlight email, zooming in on some key stats and little-known angles – with the betting markets and upcoming fixtures in mind.

Followed as ever by your Weekend Picks & Analysis email, which will be with you on Friday.

Best wishes,

Oliver Upstone
