WEEKEND PICKS & ANALYSIS

Welcome to your Weekend Picks & Analysis email.

Every week I research the stats & fixtures, across the leagues. With the aim of identifying games with top-rated stats match-ups, bet opportunities and the best prices available with the bookies.

International duty...

We have a quieter weekend than usual coming up, with the Premier League, Championship and Scottish Premiership all on hold for the final International break of 2017.

League One and League Two are in action, but even they haven’t escaped the demands of International duty... both Blackburn v Walsall and Shrewsbury v Charlton in League One have been postponed, with a shortage of available players given as the reason.

We’re still left with a good set of 20-odd fixtures taking place in the lower leagues, and a couple of them stand out in the stats markets for us. See below.

Corners expected in the TV game...

AFC Wimbledon v Peterborough

League One, Sun 2.30pm – Sky Sports

  • Over 10.5 Corners bets have paid out in Peterborough’s last 5 Away games

This game is live on Sky Sports and that means we get a better range of Total Corners markets than usual for a lower-league fixture.

The stats match up well for Over 10.5 Corners...

There have been 11 or more corners in 8 of Peterborough’s last 10 games in League One. Including each of their last 5 Away with totals of: 15, 11, 11, 17 and 12.

Peterborough are ranked 2nd in our League One table for Over 10.5 Corners bets this season, with a 73% strike-rate giving 11 payouts from 15 games overall .

AFC Wimbledon have a 50% record for that bet, but the Team Stats on our site show they have an above average Corner For figure at Home, averaging 7.3 corners per game (the division average is 5.7).

Peterborough’s Away average is 5.9 Corners For per game, just above the division average of 5.2

AFC Wimbledon have been involved in several ‘high corners’ games in recent weeks, too...

Seven of their last 10 games have paid out on Over 10.5 Corners – including 4 of their last 5 at Home, with the totals being: 24, 12, 12, 8 and 21.

Corners

The Last 5 Games – Home v Away stats above shows this is an 80% v 100% match-up. The bookies’ prices suggest Over 10.5 Corners is just a 50-50 outcome, so the options available look decent value compared to the recent form...

Over 10 Corners is a best price 11/10 (2.10) with Betfair Sportsbook, Over 10.5 Corners is 20/23 (1.87) with BetVictor, 4/5 (1.80) Bet365, NetBet, 10Bet.

Stats point to a quiet one at Crawley...

Crawley v Forest Green

League Two, Sat 3pm

  • Under 2.5 Goals bets have paid out in Crawley’s last 6 league games

The stats say we shouldn’t expect too much excitement at Crawley this weekend...

Crawley are ranked 2nd in our League Two standing for Under 2.5 Goals, including a 75% Home record giving 6 payouts from 8 games at the Checkatrade Stadium.

Crawley are currently on a run of 6 straight Under 2.5 Goals games, with some eye-catching low score-lines: 0-0 (A), 0-0 (H), 0-2 (H), 0-0 (A), 0-1 (A) and 0-1 (H).

They’ve failed to score in 5 of those 6 games. The team news says Crawley striker Thomas Verheydt could be back for his first start since August; he failed to find the net in 4 out 4 games before getting injured, so the signs are still not great for the Home side.

Forest Green have a 50% record for Under 2.5 Goals this season. On recent form that strike-rate rises to 70% though with 7 of their last 10 games seeing 2 or less goals scored.

The Goals Scored Totals on our site back up the Under 2.5 Goals angle here:

Goals

Crawley are ranked joint-bottom in League Two with just 12 goals scored in total – and a league-low Home record of just 4 goals scored in 8 games.

Forest Green are the joint-2nd lowest Away scorers with a total of just 7 goals from their 8 Away games.

In the Shots on Target stats on our site, Forest Green’s total of 48 for the season puts them rock bottom of the division.

Forest Green have also won fewer corner kicks than any other League Two side this season, further backing up the case for them not offering much going forward.

In conclusion – Crawley have had 3 goalless draws in their last 4 games, and Forest Green have the worst Away scoring and Shots stats in the division. Under 2.5 Goals is a standout match-up here.

Under 2.5 Goals is a best price 4/5 (1.80) with Boylesports, 79/100 (1.79) Marathonbet, 3/4 (1.75) Bet365, Bwin, 8/11 (1.73) in general.
