WEEKEND STATS REVIEW

Welcome to your Weekend Stats Review email.

Every Monday we take a look at the latest stats and results – catching up on the performance of our Picks, and drawing attention to particularly eye-catching teams, players or trends.

Huddersfield at home in the big league...

It was a case of ‘Sod’s Law’ as far as my Weekend Picks & Analysis was concerned. The two bets I mentioned but didn’t back, won; the two bets that I did recommend, lost...

In Friday’s email I mentioned both ‘Huddersfield -2 Corner Handicap’ and ‘Burton – Most Booking Points’ – before dismissing them in favour of two Total Goals Picks.

As it turned out, Burton did indeed win the Most Booking Points, 1 Yellow Card (10 pts) to zero in their 2-1 win over Birmingham – and at tasty odds of 9/4 (3.25), too.

That 2-1 win was also Burton’s first points of the season, so we were at least correct to avoid Birmingham as the Away Win favourite in the Match Result market (Burton had previously lost 3 out of 3 games).

  • With 4 games played, the Championship League Stats on our site show Burton have a 100% record for Most Cards/ Most Booking Points bets. Next up for Burton – a Home game v Sheffield Wednesday this weekend...
  • Sunderland are also up there with a 100% record (4 games out of 4) in that market, after receiving 3 Yellow Cards (30 pts) to 1 Yellow Card (10 pts) in their 0-2 Home defeat to Leeds. Next for Sunderland – Away to Barnsley on Saturday...

We also looked at Huddersfield in the Most Corners and -2 Corner Handicap markets, v fellow newly-promoted Premier League side Newcastle...

Huddersfield won the game 1-0, and won the corner count, 7-3. That builds on Huddersfield’s awesome 93% Most Corners Home record from last season in the Championship.

David Wagner’s side will be on our radar again soon, no doubt – Huddersfield are at Home again this weekend, taking on Southampton...

On to my actual weekend Picks, and our Under/ Over 2.5 Goals selections ended up the wrong way round...

Charlton were 2-0 v Northampton until the 79th minute, but a late flurry of goals meant both teams played out their first Over 2.5 Goals game of the season (Charlton won 4-1).

  • Northampton have now lost 4 out of 4 games in all comps this season

While up in Scotland, Motherwell couldn’t manage to put a third goal past 10-man Ross County, with a 2-0 Home Win providing both teams’ first Under 2.5 Goals result of the fledgling Scottish Premiership campaign.

There’s a long, long way to go yet, of course. We’re only a couple of weeks into a 40-odd week long season.

Here are some of the other teams putting together some eye-catching stats so far. After the weekend’s games:

  • Tottenham 1 Chelsea 2 – That’s 2 out of 2 Over 2.5 Goals games for Chelsea so far, and 15 out of 21 Premier League payouts for that bet so far this calendar year (71%)
  • Preston 1 Reading 0 – A total of 9 Corners in this game provided Preston’s 4th Under 10.5 Corners payout from 4 Championship games (100%). Preston were ranked 4th of the 24 teams in the division for that bet last season
  • Peterborough 2 Rotherham 1 – A 100% start for Peterborough on the Over 2.5 Goals front, and overall that’s 8 payouts from their last 10 League One Home games
  • Wycombe 2 Notts County 4 – It’s been goals galore for Wycombe so far, with a 2-2 draw, a 3-2 win and now a 2-4 defeat giving them an early 100% strike-rate for both Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score bets in League Two
  • Aberdeen 2 Dundee 1 – Dundee have lost all 3 of their Scottish Premiership game so far but have won the Most Corners and covered a -1 Corner Handicap (winning 2+ corners more than opponents) in every game. The corners score in this one was 6-4 to Dundee

That’s just a sample of the current trends on our site – one from each of the five domestic leagues we cover.

Check out all our unique betting stats across over 30 betting markets for over 100 teams on our site.

Coming up this week...

We have a full fixture list to look forward to across all those leagues this weekend.

I’ll be back on Wednesday with your Spotlight email focusing on a particular stats area and its related betting market... giving us a few pointers ahead of Friday’s Weekend Picks & Analysis.

In the meantime, enjoy the football – including Man City v Everton on Sky Sports tonight, followed by League Cup ties & Champions League Qualifiers on TV on Tuesday.

See you Wednesday...

Best wishes,

Oliver Upstone
