Two names and 556 bets...
Wednesday 9th January 2019
In your Across the Leagues email today:
- More markets, more choice...
- Best options on the stats...
- Why these two names keep appearing...
A key part of stats betting...
Today I’m looking at what one of my colleagues calls a ‘necessary evil’: bookmakers.
We can’t bet without the bookies. And without all the online firms that have grown and popped up over the last decade, we wouldn’t have the myriad stats markets to choose from that we have at our disposal today...
Your members-only Across the Leagues website takes care of the stats. Our site contains unique betting stats for over 100 teams across over 30 categories – taking in Goals, Corners, Cards & Bookings, Scorers, Half Times and even Referees.
The next step is the match-day research, hunting out games where the stats for both teams combine well and provide a bet opportunity. That’s where I help out with my weekly emails to you. All the tables and Head-2-Head comparisons on the site allow you to find your own top-rated picks, too.
And then we get to the bookies...
Price is important, of course. In your weekly Picks & Analysis emails I always list the bookies offering the best odds for the stats market in question. For a bet such as ‘Team to get the Most Cards,’ this usually entails me visiting up to 10 different bookie sites to identify the top price and best option.
Oddschecker is useful for many things in your day-to-day betting. But it doesn’t list all the stats markets. And for some games, the leading comparison site incorrectly suggests that there are no such stats markets available at all.
To make the most of the stats and have the best possible chance of capitalising on a value price, generous handicap or Under/ Over line, we need to shop around...
Why these two names keep appearing...
Someone asked me recently why NetBet and Marathonbet keep cropping up in their Across the Leagues emails.
The answer is simple: because those two bookies have some of the largest selections of stats markets available, anywhere on the internet.
Compared to big brands like Bet365 and Paddy Power or the traditional high street firms such as Ladbrokes and William Hill, NetBet and Marathonbet are on the more obscure end of the betting spectrum, for sure. But both of those lesser-known names are starting to establish themselves in the UK online marketplace. NetBet and Marathonbet both advertise on TV. They’re both becoming a steady presence on the betting landscape, especially for the football.
Pretty much all bookmakers offer Match Result win-lose-or-draw bets, and Over/ Under Total Goals. But they don’t all cover Corners, Cards & Bookings – which are some of our main areas of concentration here at Across the Leagues...
556 bets...
Take tonight’s EFL Cup tie between Man City and Burton Albion, for example...
NetBet have a total of 154 markets, with a wide range of stats bets including Total Corners, Corner Handicap, Winner Corners Full Time (Most Corners), Total Bookings and First Booking. Take a look at their site here.
Marathonbet have a massive selection for tonight’s game, with 402 markets on offer. That’s more than William Hill, who used to be top of the tree with 200-odd markets per game. Marathonbet’s range includes Most Corners, Corner Handicap, Total Corners, Most Yellow Cards and Total Yellow Cards. Visit their site here.
With so many stats options to choose from, those two names will continue to appear frequently in our weekly emails and advice. Having an account with one or both of NetBet and Marathonbet will serve you well throughout the course of the season.
I’ll be back on Friday when we’ll be looking at the weekend stats, fixtures and – of course – the betting markets.
Enjoy the football...
Best wishes,

Oliver Upstone
