Summer Stats – Women’s World Cup...

We’re in the off-season in the UK & European leagues. But across the world, the football doesn’t stop...

Summer Stats...

Over the summer – while we’re waiting for our main business to resume in the English Premier League and Football League – we’ll be keeping a close eye on the match stats & markets for these June & July competitions. We’ll be looking to have the occasional bet along the way, too:

  • Women’s World Cup in France
  • Copa America in Brazil
  • African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt

The Copa America starts this weekend and AFCON kicks off the weekend after. The Women’s World Cup is got underway last Friday night and there’s already a strong trend emerging...

Women’s World Cup – Most Corners trends...

I’ve always got my head in the stats and I love it when I find a pattern. These don’t always lead to bets on the day but they can certainly help us to spot opportunities moving forwards...

It might seem an obvious statement, but so far in the Women’s World Cup, there’s a strong correlation between teams being short odds-on favourites to win the match – and those teams then winning the Most Corners by a decent margin.

So far, the match favourites have won the Most Corners (and also covered -1 and -2 Corner Handicaps) in 8 out of 9 games. Compared to 7 out of 9 Match Result favourites actually winning the game...

In other words, backing the favourite to boss the Corners is proving a better tactic than backing them to win the game.

The two shock score-lines so far have been Australia 1 Italy 2 and Argentina 0 Japan 0. Australia were odds-on at 3/5 (1.60) to beat Italy. Japan were just 1/9 (1.11) v Argentina.

Here are the results and corners tallies so far (match favourites in CAPS):

FRANCE 4 Korea Republic 0
Corners = 13-1

GERMANY 1 China 0
Corners = 8-3

SPAIN 3 South Africa 1
Corners = 5-2

NORWAY 3 Nigeria 0
Corners = 5-5

AUSTRALIA 1 Italy 2
Corners = 6-3

BRAZIL 3 Jamaica 0
Corners = 10-3

ENGLAND 2 Scotland 1
Corners = 9-2

Argentina 0 JAPAN 0
Corners = 0-5

CANADA 1 Cameroon 0
Corners = 10-4

More markets than ever...

The first round of Group games will be completed today:

  • New Zealand v NETHERLANDS (2pm)
  • Chile v SWEDEN (5pm)
  • USA v Thailand (8pm)

The Dutch are 3/10 (1.30) to win, Sweden 1/7 (1.14) and USA huge favourites at 1/100 (1.01).

USA v Thailand is the mismatch of the tournament, with the reigning champions and 2019 favourites against the 2,000/1 rank outsiders for the trophy.

For this World Cup, the bookies are offering more markets on Women’s football than ever before...

  • Most Corners bets are available with the likes of Bet365, William Hill, Skybet, BetVictor, Betfair Sportsbook, Paddy Power, Boylesports, 888 Sport, Unibet
  • Corner Handicap options are available with Bet365, Skybet, Betfair Sportsbook, Paddy Power, NetBet, 10Bet, BetVictor, 888 Sport, Unibet

Coming up...

After today’s action there will be 40 more games to come. Including the full second & third rounds of the Group stage, followed of course by the Knockout phase.

I’m going to be following the stats. We may well have a bet or two in the next rounds of Women’s World Cup games. I’ll keep you posted...

Best wishes,

Shaun Humphris
