Tears in the tunnel…
I’m not one for moaning about refereeing decisions. Let’s just say the men in black had an impact on a couple of our Champions League picks last night.
Cristiano Ronaldo got a straight Red Card for Juventus. That’s the first time Ronaldo has ever been sent off in the Champions League. He ended up trudging down the tunnel in tears.
The pending suspension is certainly bad news for our 7/1 Top Scorer pick. Positive hat on, long term, we still have Ronnie firmly in the good books – with the star man having furnished us with three Top Scorer payouts in the last three seasons.
Benfica remain our top-rated Champions League side for Over 3.5 Cards. There were exactly 4 Yellows last night (all dished out by an eager Ref in the first 52 minutes), one short of landing our Over 4.5 Cards selection v Bayern Munich. The Germans won the game comfortably (2-0), but suffered a rare Corners defeat (5-4).
- For the season so far in all comps, we’re slightly ahead on the picks (7% ROI)
- The Champions League continues with Match-day Two on Tuesday 2nd October. I’ll be providing Picks & Analysis for every round of games, all season
Your Champions League Stats Report…
A couple of consistent Champions League trends continued last night…
Three-time defending champions Real Madrid remain the No.1 side on our Historical Stats for Match Result wins (no surprise there). They beat Roma 3-0.
That Madrid game was notable for stats enthusiasts and Total Corners backers alike… there were a whopping 27 Corners in the game, with the score 16-11 to Real Madrid.
To put that in perspective, anything over 20 Total Corners is massive. The normal betting line is 10.5 Corners. Both teams beat that on their own last night!
Madrid in particular are a team to keep an eye on for high corners tallies as we move forward. They’re ranked 1st in our Champions League Stats going back six seasons.
Elsewhere, Man City and CSKA Moscow justified their place at the top of our Champions League standings for Both Teams to Score, with 1-2 and 2-2 score-lines respectively on Match-day One.
And despite playing most of the game at Valencia with 10 men, Juventus won 2-0 and franked their No.2 ranking for European Clean Sheets, and also Under 2.5 Goals.
You can view all those stats and many more in your exclusive, new edition of our Across the Leagues Champions League Stats Report. You can get the report on the link below. I’ll also be adding it to the website, so it’s easy to refer to throughout the season.
