Party time in Austria…
*** As announced yesterday, we’ve merged our two football services, with all my Football Angles analysis & advice now coming to you by email as part of your Across the Leagues service. It’s great to be here. See below for my angles and picks for tonight’s football… ***
Goals galore in Germany, once again…
The action came to a close in Germany last weekend, and it was goals galore as usual on the final day…
In the Bundesliga, eight of the nine games went Over 2.5 Goals. The one that failed to deliver was Bayer Leverkusen’s 1-0 win against Mainz.
Elsewhere in the German top-flight on Saturday afternoon, the goals flowed with some big score-lines including: 6-1, 3-2 and three x 4-0’s. This is an angle we can return to again next term. And we still have the final-day figures to look at in England, Spain and Italy this month, too.
Down in Bundesliga II, the final round of fixtures also followed the high-goals trend. With seven of the nine games going Over 2.5 Goals. Including 5-3 and 5-1 score-lines.
- The Bundesliga relegation playoffs start on Thursday evening, with a two-legged encounter between Werder Bremen and Heidenheim. Bremen are desperate to remain in the top division, while Heidenheim are looking to go up
Penultimate round in ‘the other Bundesliga’…
Talking of big scores, we can expect some goals to fly in as the Austrian Bundesliga reaches its climax this week…
Throughout the season I’ve been tracking Red Bull Salzburg’s high-scoring form. Along with a few scorers of top scorers the Austrian league: Patson Daka (Salzburg), Andreas Gruber (Mattersburg) and leading scorer Shon Weissman (Wolfsberger).
Weissman and Daka are both in action this evening in the penultimate round of Austrian Bundesliga games in the ‘Championship Round’ (the league splits into two for the final part of the season). The prices are short. Both men are a general 4/11 (1.36) in the Anytime Scorer markets, and around 2/1 (3.00) each to be First Goalscorer.
The games in question there are Hartberg v Wolfsberger, and Salzburg v Sturn Graz…
Take your pick…
Salzburg sealed the league title at the weekend with a 3-0 win. That came after a 7-2 away victory last Wednesday. Since returning at the start of June, the Red Bull club have also notched up emphatic 6-0 and 5-1 score-lines.
That 5-1 came at Sturm Graz. There will be no fans inside the Red Bull Arena when those sides meet again in Salzburg this evening, but the party atmosphere could be on show on the pitch…
As you’d expect, the champions are super-short prices to win and win well. Jesse Marsch’s team are just 1/10 (1.10) to win, 3/10 (1.30) to win by more than one goal (-1 Match Handicap), and 7/10 (1.70) to win with Over 3.5 Goals in the game.
The formbook suggests it could well be worth routing out a couple of big Correct Scores here…
In the league, Salzburg have scored at least twice in all 15 of their home games this season. They’ve scored three or more in 10 of those 15 home outings.
Sturm Graz have lost seven out of eight since the restart. With five of those defeats by a margin of two or more goals, including a brace of 4-0 beatings on the road, as well as that 1-5 reverse v Salzburg.
For much greater returns than the Match Result odds, those two options are my selections in the Correct Score market for tonight’s games. Salzburg 4-0 is 8/1, and the 5-1 repeat is 17/1.
2/1 for a Rapid result…
With European qualification places still to sort out, Rapid Vienna v LASK Linz is an important one in the Austrian Bundesliga this evening.
Before lockdown, LASK were top of the league and favourites for the title. However, they were proven to have resumed full-contract training before it was officially allowed, and suffered a hefty points penalty for that misdemeanour…
That knocked the stuffing out of Linz. They opened up after the restart with three defeats and a draw. They pulled themselves together to win three in a row recently, but the damage was done and the title has gone to Salzburg.
A 0-1 loss v Wolfsberger was the fatal blow on Sunday. Now LASK must regroup once again, but going to Rapid Vienna won’t be easy…
Rapid have beaten LASK in each of their last two meetings, 1-0 away in June, and 4-0 away back in December. The Vienna club have won five of seven league games since 7th June.
At bigger than 2/1 (3.00+) for the home win tonight, Rapid are the team to back in this one.
