Serial scorers and serial offenders…
It’s been good few days for us in the German Bundesliga, thanks to our picks in the player markets.
First Goalscorers…
Last Wednesday night, Andre Silva was an 11/2 (6.50) First Goalscorer selection in Eintracht Frankfurt’s 3-0 win at Werder Bremen. And while Silva hardly had a kick in his team’s follow-up fixture on Saturday – with Frankfurt going down 0-2 v Mainz – there’s plenty of evidence in the stats for following our highlighted players in multiple matches…
For example, we’ve now backed Patrick Schick on two occasions in the First Goalscorer market, with one payout. The RB Leipzig forward took his chance in the starting line-up on Saturday, landing odds of 9/2 (5.50) with the opening goal against Paderborn on 27 minutes.
Since the Bundesliga restart, we’ve also backed Bayer Leverkusen’s top scorer Kai Havertz on two separate occasions, returning one First Goalscorer payout at odds of 5/1 (6.00). Havertz is currently out injured, but is one to watch when he returns later this month.
Across those three players, we’ve had a total of six First Goalscorer picks, with three winners, for an overall profit on that Scorer market since the Bundesliga returned last month.
Standout stats:
- Andre Silva has scored in 4 out of 6 games for Frankfurt since the restart
- Patrick Schick has scored in 4 of his last 5 starts for Leipzig
- Kai Havertz has found the net in 3 out of 4 games for Leverkusen since play resumed
Cards & Bookings…
We also have some serial offenders to keep an eye on when it comes to discipline…
At the weekend, we had two player selections in the To be Booked markets.
Jean-Paul Boetius was an unused substitute for Mainz (bet void). But Adam Bodzek started for Dusseldorf, and went in the book after 27 minutes. That yellow card gave a payout in the region of 2/1 (3.00).
At the start of June, we flagged up Leipzig’s 21-year-old French centre back, Dayot Upamecano as a frequently carded player in recent weeks. He didn’t get in the referee’s book on the day we named him, but Upamecano was in the thick of it on Saturday… the young defender picked up two bookings; sent off before half time.
With one 2/1 payout from two settled picks in the To be Booked markets, we’ll be looking to stay ahead on the player cards front as the new behind-closed-door schedule continues – see below for more on the upcoming fixture list.
Standout stats:
- Adam Bodzek has received a Yellow Card in 7 out of 10 home league stats for Dusseldorf this season
- Dayot Upamecano has now been carded in 6 of his last 9 Bundesliga appearances
And here’s another player we should look out for in the Cards & Bookings markets…
Suspensions and records…
Paderborn midfielder Klaus Gjasula picked up his 16th yellow of the season on Saturday. Gjasula’a 16 yellow cards are a joint Bundesliga record for a single league campaign.
And there are still plenty of games left for the 30-year-old to break that record completely…
In the Bundesliga, 5 yellows will get you a one-game ban. Having served the most recent of those suspensions, Gjasula should be on our radar for Cards bets in the next couple of weeks – depending on the price we can get from the bookies, of course.
Bayern’s big two suspended…
Bayern Munich won 4-2 at Leverkusen and continue their march towards the league title, but a couple of their record-breaking star men will be missing for the next games against Borussia Monchengladbach…
German maestro Thomas Muller notched his 30th assist of the season in Saturday’s win – a new Bundesliga record. But Muller also collected his 5th booking of 2019/20, and will miss the next game as a consequence.
Up front, Robert Lewandowski got his customary goal in that 4-2 win. The Polish striker has now scored in 6 of his last 7 Bundesliga games, and the league Top Scorer is now up to 30 in total. He needs one more goal to get over 30 and beat his own previous best tally.
Lewandowski will have to wait for that chance, though. He was also booked on Saturday, triggering a one-game suspension for this coming weekend. With the default favourite missing, the Scorer markets will be worth a look for us ahead of that game v Monchengladbach...
We’ll be back looking at the Bundesliga again in our Weekend Preview email on Friday.
By then, we’ll also have La Liga fixtures taking place, too…
Dates for the diary…
Our dedicated Bundesliga coverage has been going well so far. We’ll soon have plenty more leagues and weekly games to look at, as well. Here are some key dates for the diary, barring any developments with the virus situation.
- Thur 11th June – Spain, La Liga first game back
- Wed 17th June – England, Premier League first two games
- Weekend of 19th June – full weekend fixture lists in La Liga, Premier League, English Championship and Italy’s Serie A
Along with the Bundesliga continuing, that’s a good set of games & leagues we’ll have back in our weekly coverage very soon.
And remember, we have stats for all those leagues and teams on your members-only Across the Leagues website.
With La Liga due back this week, I’ll be reporting to you over the next couple of days with standout stats from the season-to-date in Spain, so we’re all kitted-out ready for the kick off.
I’ll be in touch tomorrow with the first batch of Spanish stats…
Best wishes,

Shaun Humphris
