Our 40/1 ticket for the Playoffs...

Friday 24th July 2020

In Across the Leagues today:

  • From 40/1 to 9/2...
  • Championship Playoffs...
  • Vardy going for the Golden Boot...

Our 40/1 ticket for the Playoffs...

We said that strange things happen on the final day of the season. That was certainly the case in the Championship on Wednesday night…

Swansea won 4-1 away, and Nottingham Forest lost 1-4 at home, bringing about the three-point leap and six-goal swing that meant the Swans crept into the final 6th place playoff position, edging out Forest with a superior goal difference by one goal.

Value on our side...

Our picks in the Outright markets are all about price. We got on Swansea at 40/1 (41.0) with four games to go, when they were four pts off the payoff places. The Welshmen in white are now down to 9/2 (5.50) for Promotion.

That’s a 35-pt shift in the betting. Whatever happens in the playoffs, we’re going in with a massive chunk of value on our side.

Here are the bookies’ prices To Win the Playoffs:

Brentford 6/4 (2.5)
Fulham 9/4 (3.25)
Cardiff 4/1 (5.0)
Swansea 9/2 (5.5)

Semi Finals - Two Legs:

Swansea v Brentford
Cardiff v Fulham

Our men get underway with the 1st Leg at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday evening (6.30pm, Sky Sports).

The betting has Brentford as 1/2 (1.5) favourites To Qualify for the final. Swansea are 7/4 (2.75) underdogs to get through over the two legs.

With the Bees losing their last two games of the regular season, our outsiders have momentum in their favour.

  • If you’re on Swansea to go up at 40/1 and want to trade or protect your stakes, you have plenty of points to play with. For example, you could dutch by spreading a few points across Brentford, Fulham and Cardiff for Promotion

Premier League final day...

Look out for today’s Across the Leagues EXTRA email in your inbox, with Predictions for Sunday’s final day in the Premier League. Including Over 2.5 Goals stats & picks.

On the long-term gains quest, long-standing followers (from my Football Angles service) are on Jamie Vardy at 20/1 (21.0) to be Top Goalscorer.

With one game to go, Jamie has a two-goal lead over Danny Ings, and is short odds-on at 1/20 (1.05) to claim the prize. Ings is 12/1 (13.0) to usurp Vardy on the final day.

Farewell, David Silva…

At Man City, David Silva bids farewell to the Etihad and the Premier League. The 34-year-old Spanish legend has got two goals from his last three league appearances.

In Sunday’s Anytime Scorer market, BetVictor and Skybet are a best price 15/8 (2.88) for Silva to sign off with a goal for Man City v already-relegated Norwich. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see David’s teammates setting him up for a farewell goal...

I’ll be back from my holidays this weekend. See you on Monday with your next email and analysis.

Enjoy the football…

Best wishes,

Oliver Upstone
