In Across the Leagues today:
Is there any romance left in the FA Cup?
A 5th Round spread across Monday to Wednesday doesn’t do much for the traditionalists.
But if we get one of our big-odds Each Way outsiders through to the final this spring – then the magic of the cup will be alive and well with us…
Before the top-flight clubs entered the fray in the 3rd Round, we got behind two teams with appetising underdog credentials:
We’re on Wolves and Leicester.
Both backed at top prices of 80/1 or 66/1, Each Way (1/2 odds 1-2 places). You can read my original piece from 4th January here.
Since we backed the Wolves and the Foxes, our selections have both won through two rounds of cup ties. Taking us now to the 5th Round, one victory away from reaching the quarter finals – where things would start to get interesting…
In the Outright market, Wolves are now down to 25/1. And Leicester are 33/1, with a few firms going bigger.
So, we have a couple of big prices on our side. Here’s who we’re up against this week:
The bookies make Championship leaders Leicester a 14/5 (3.8) chance to pull off a shock of sorts, and knock out Premier League hosts Bournemouth, by any means – extra time, penalties, whatever it takes (‘To Qualify’ market).
With the all-top-flight encounter between Wolves and Brighton chalked up as a pick ‘em by the odds compilers, with the teams 10/11 (1.91) apiece to reach the quarter finals.
You can watch both matches live on the BBC iPlayer.
What would be even better than landing an 80/1 FA Cup winner? How about a 244/1 Win & Both Teams to Score treble…
Those are the headline odds on offer at William Hill today. With the three teams below making the cut as our Win & BTTS picks for this evening’s Football League fixtures.
On Saturday, we landed two out of three for Both Teams to Score. With just one team obliging in the big-price Win & BTTS combo (Ipswich)…
We’ve come very close already this season, on more than one occasion. The messages arriving from you in my inbox have been very clear: keep the Win & Both Teams to Score trebles coming…
At these odds, just one night of glory would see us right for the whole campaign…
Three picks for tonight – all 7.45pm kick-offs…
The Football League is full of anyone-can-beat-anyone scenarios, every week. With that in mind, we certainly shouldn’t be put off by the big prices for the away teams here. In fact, we should take them as our nod to get involved…
Wycombe v CHELTENHAM @ 6/1
League One
Leyton Orient v BLACKPOOL @ 6/1
League One
Swindon v TRANMERE @ 4/1
League Two
The advice: a treble on Both Teams to Score in all three games. And split a stake four ways across the Win & Both Teams to Score Trixie on Cheltenham, Blackpool & Tranmere (comprising of three doubles, and that giant treble).
TONIGHT – kick-off 7.45pm
Wycombe v Cheltenham
Leyton Orient v Blackpool
Swindon v Tranmere
