Malcolm’s Minnows Method…

Yesterday’s International Notebook did okay for us. Lyndon Dykes scored the only goal of the game as Scotland pulled off an important 1-0 win in Austria. Dykes’ penalty landed Anytime Scorer odds of 7/2 (4.5).

Russia were ‘just one goal away’ from clicking for the 3-0 Correct Score at 5/1 (6.0), beating Malta, 2-0.

Elsewhere, the odds-on big boys were at it again. Memphis Depay scored a hat-trick in Netherlands’ 6-1 victory over Turkey. And wonderkid Erling Braut Haaland was on fire again for Norway, also bagging a hat-trick, in a 5-1 win v Gibraltar.

• Haaland has played a total of 8 games for club & country this season, and scored 11 times. Including a hat-trick for Borussia Dortmund in the German Cup, and that hat-trick for Norway in the World Cup 2022 Qualifiers last night

It’s funny that he should mention the 2-0 and 3-0 Correct Scores, as I have had a similar thing in mind when it comes to these midweek World Cup Qualifiers…

30/1 doubles…

I completely agree with what Malcolm is saying there, about the smaller nations winning to nil against the absolute minnows, without necessarily racking up a mountain of goals.

There are two games on tonight’s (7.45pm) fixture list that I make good contenders to fit into that 2-0 & 3-0 bracket:

ALBANIA v San Marino
Albania 2-0 @ 11/2 (6.5) or 5/1 (6.0)
Albania 3-0 @ 9/2 (5.5) or 4/1 (5.0)

HUNGARY v Andorra
Hungary 2-0 @ 5/1 (6.0) or 9/2 (5.5)
Hungary 3-0 @ 11/2 (6.5) or 5/1 (6.0)

• Last time they met, Albania beat San Marino, 2-0

• 3 of Hungary’s last 4 wins at all levels have been To Nil

In the standard Match Result market, a double on those two home wins pays miniscule odds of just 2/11 (1.18).

A double on Albania & Hungary each with a -1 Match Handicap (eg. to both win by 2+ goals) is also odds-on, at 4/6 (1.67) at best.

The Correct Score route offers much bigger odds. Even more so if we combine the 2-0 & 3-0 options in pairs…

Across those two targeted matches, that would be 4 x doubles, to cover all the bases with those 2-0 & 3-0 Correct Score combinations.

Each double comes out at around 30/1. Giving some enticing big-odds potential to these otherwise less-than-exciting fixtures…
