Second Half Energy: Watch out for these in the Carabao Cup...

In Across the Leagues today:

  • Straight to penalties…
  • Welsh derby tonight…

Second Half Energy: Watch out for these in the Carabao Cup…

The EFL Cup AKA the Carabao Cup is at the last 16 stage. There’s a place in the quarter finals up for grabs for these clubs this week:

Carabao Cup Last 16 Fixtures

That 4th round list includes four all Premier League ties taking place tomorrow night.

Along with a first meeting since 2002 between Welsh duo Wrexham and Cardiff tonight…

Add in the fact that these ties go straight to penalties if it’s all-square at the end of normal time…

And you have a recipe for some end-to-end cup entertainment this week…

  • There were two Half Time/ Full Time comebacks in the previous round of the Carabao Cup: Chelsea came from 1-0 down at the break to win 1-2 at Lincoln. And Swansea fought back from 0-2 down to knock out Nottingham Forest, 3-2
  • In the 2nd round, Wrexham came from 2-1 down at half time to beat Preston, 2-3. That HT/ FT turnaround paid 40/1

I do think tonight’s match at the Racecourse Ground between Championship side Wrexham and Cardiff City of League One could produce some drama…

  • Cardiff’s recent match record in all competitions is a topsy-turvy WLWLWL
  • While Wrexham have drawn 4 of their last 6 games, all by the 1-1 score

The draw is 9/4 (3.25) or better in general. With the 1-1 Correct Score at 5/1 (6.0) with most firms, and 11/2 (6.5) at Betfred and Betway.

And in terms of a penalty shootout, Bet365 offer these prices in the ‘Method of Victory’ market:

Wrexham v Cardiff - Method of Victory

  • In the Half Time/ Full Time market, HT Wrexham/ FT Cardiff is 40/1 at BetVictor, with HT Cardiff/ FT Wrexham at 30/1. If you made me choose between those two outcomes, I’d lean towards the latter…

Wrexham v Cardiff is live on Sky Sports at 8pm.

No account bets from me today. But I’ll be back tomorrow with advice for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup games - including some further Half Time/ Full Time investigations…

Enjoy the football…

Best wishes,
