Sheffield United v Sheffield Wednesday

I remember watching Sheffield Wednesday beat Sheffield United in the 1993 FA Cup semi final. Mark Bright and Chris Waddle were on the scoresheet…

Both clubs were in the Premier League back then (or the Premiership, as it was called). There haven’t been as many Steel City derbies in recent times, though. This weekend’s clash will be the first since 2019…

If you put any weight behind five-year-old head-to-head form (and this is a local derby, so perhaps we should). Then I can tell you that each of the last three meetings between Sheff Utd and Sheff Wed ended in 0-0 draws….

That low-scoring theme certainly plays into a dominant 2024/25 stats trend:

• Sheffield United are ranked no.1 in our English league figures for UNDER 2.5 Goals bets this season. Paying out 12 times out of 14 (86%)...

In fact, the Blades are on a run of 10 out of 11 league matches going Under 2.5 Goals, including five in a row at Bramall Lane (all Wins To Nil, two 2-0, and three 1-0).

The bookies will give you 8/11 (1.73) for Under 2.5 Goals in Sunday’s game, with Ladbrokes & Coral a smidgen better at 3/4 (1.75).
